The students

  • have a broad overview and understanding about state-of-the art technologies and methods for environmental data acquisition
  • are able to plan and implement successfully an environmental geodata acquisition project with selected GI technologies
  • are able to post-process, integrate and visualize the practically collected geodata together with data from other sources in a GIS

This module focuses on GI technologies and methods for geospatial environmental data acquisition:

  • Environmental data sampling concepts
  • Main methods and technologies of classical surveying
  • Principles of Crowd Sourcing and Volunteered Geographic Information
  • Photogrammetry
  • Aerial and satellite-based remote sensing
  • Laser scanning
  • Principles of the Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) and applications
  • Principles of Unmanned Aerial Systems ("UAS"; "Drones")
  • Integration, manipulation and visualization on open source GIS
