Bachelor Degree Program Information Technologies
Study Program Multimedia Technology (part-time)

From game development to video editing

From multimedia content creation to game development

There has always been plenty of scope for creativity in the multimedia sector. From effects processing of film and video material, 2D or 3D graphics and animations, IT applications to game development - the areas of application are diverse and versatile.

Thanks to current technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR), multimedia designers have more opportunities than ever before: none of them are neglected on the IT Multimedia Technology Bachelor's degree course.

In addition to specialist training, we place great importance on social networking and the exchange between students and lecturers at various events on campus.

Interlocking Creativity and Technology

Students of the "Multimedia Technology" branch of the "Information Technologies" degree course are creative generalists and benefit from the close integration of creativity and technology, which is consciously practiced on the course.

Embedded between media informatics and technical informatics, students acquire skills in the areas of informatics and programming, multimedia basics, internet technologies, image processing as well as audio and video engineering.

During the course, AI tools are used for knowledge building in teaching and content creation on the one hand and for integration into IT applications on the other.

At the beginning of the course, students are taught the basics of computer science and mathematics, combined with initial insights into the creation of multimedia content.

In the higher semesters, the course also focuses on 3D modeling, computer animation and augmented and virtual reality. The functionality and application of game engines, which are used in video games and VR/AR applications, play a major role here.

On graduation, students have the ability to plan and efficiently implement innovative projects for a wide range of multimedia productions.

Multimedia technology students always have an eye on practical requirements: Lecturers who come directly from the industry prepare them for current trends in the sector as well as new technological developments.

Photography, image design, image processing, the use of AI tools and computer graphics are among the practical skills that students acquire in the course of their studies. Accordingly, students also work with state-of-the-art laboratory equipment.

In the compulsory elective modules Data Science, Mobile Systems Development and Internet of Things, they can further deepen their interests.

A work placement concludes this creative-technical course. It is rounded off with content from the fields of innovation management and content creation, so that graduates are excellently prepared for today's challenges in the world of work.

    Profile

"Multimedia Technology" is a bachelor's program at the interface of creativity and technology. Game development, animation and visualisation are at the heart of this course, which offers a wide range of job opportunities in audio and video production, software development or augmented and virtual reality. The course provides theoretical input from the fields of media informatics and technical informatics. Among the skills students learn are programming, image processing, and audio and video engineering.

Thanks to state-of-the-art laboratory equipment, they also come into constant contact with state-of-the-art multimedia technologies during their studies: They are the first to see and try out the latest developments. Close cooperation with industry also contributes to this - guest lecturers bring up-to-date practical experience to the courses, which are directly inspired by the requirements of industry. Graduates have a good chance to dock there right after their studies: As sought-after experts in the fields of audio and video production, 2D/3D animation, game development, augmented and virtual reality production or software development.

What students should bring to their studies:

    • A fundamental interest and enjoyment in scientific and technical subjects.
    • A creative personality who enjoys innovative developments.
    • Logical thinking skills combined with a good command of English.
    • Curiosity and the ability to work independently.

Concrete previous knowledge is not necessary for the bachelor's program Multimedia Technology. Therefore, students from all types of schools can start this course of study after the Matura if they bring the appropriate interest and willingness to perform. In order to facilitate the start of studies, CUAS offers intensive courses in mathematics, computer science and physics. Missing university entrance qualifications can be compensated by relevant professional qualifications and attendance of the pre-study course.

After successful completion of their studies, graduates have the following skills and knowledge:

    • Audio and video productions
    • 2D/3D animations
    • game development
    • Augmented and virtual reality production
    • Software development

    The fields of activity include:

    • Audio and video productions
    • 2D/3D animations
    • game development
    • Augmented and virtual reality production
    • Software development

Excellent job prospects with multimedia technology
"Whether for advertising, in training, for trade fairs, for online presence, for product presentations or image films, animations, apps and much more. - Multimedia technology is being used more and more, but there is a lack of qualified personnel! Any company that wants to stand out from its competitors and keep up with the latest developments cannot avoid high-quality multimedia solutions.

This versatile branch of study is suitable for those who want to realise their creative potential, but are also able to work diligently. It is a unique opportunity for young people who have the interest, the seriousness and the commitment to complete a sustainable education with great career opportunities."

    Hubert Dobrounig, HD Media Group

The successful completion of the bachelor's degree in Multimedia Technology entitles the holder to a master's degree in Engineering & IT at the Carinthia University of Applied Sciences in the scope of 4 semesters as well as a master's degree in Engineering & IT at another FH or university.

    Campus & Arrival

    Campus Primoschgasse

Klagenfurt combines joie de vivre, nature and culture. The city of just over 100,000 inhabitants on Lake Wörthersee is a recreational area that fulfils every wish. Slovenia and Italy are not far away, the mountains are within reach. Klagenfurt's cultural scene is also vibrant, with clubs, stages and museums. The Old Square with its many shops, restaurants and cafés is the centre of city life. The idyllic Lendkanal connects the city with the lake and, like Kreuzbergl, is a popular destination for amateur sportsmen and nature lovers.
The campus in Primoschgasse has perfect transport connections - a separate bus line stops directly in front of the FH on the Südring. The view from the roof terrace onto the mountain panorama surrounding Klagenfurt offers the perfect space for relaxing breaks.

    Villach

The Villach region combines tradition, cosmopolitanism and quality of life with the advantages of an innovative business location. Villach, a small town with about 60,000 inhabitants, is an international high-tech location with groundbreaking cooperation between science and industry and is also increasingly developing into a start-up town.

Situated directly at the intersection of three cultures, Villach, situated on the Drava river, is an important traffic junction in the Alps-Adriatic region. This special geographical location and the beautiful landscape around Villach and in the federal state of Carinthia have made the region a popular holiday destination for generations, further beyond the borders. The drinking water quality of the lakes and the particularly clean air make Villach and its surroundings an environmental paradise.

In addition to its geographical advantages, Austria also leads the world in terms of its social and health care system and is considered a particularly safe, prosperous and liveable country.

Despite the above-average prosperity and the comprehensive state social benefits, Villach compares favourably with many international destinations. The "small town bonus" comes into its own here and makes everyday life affordable.
