The students are able to list the necessary functional blocks for the transmission of signals over transmission channels (baseband and high-frequency bands). They are able to determine the achievable transmission rates over a transmission channel with given parameters (bandwidth, min. signal-to-noise ratio at the receiver) and to take measures to reduce bit error rates (error detection/-correction).
They know about the properties of basic modulations schemes and are able to determine the necessary bandwidth for the transmission of an analog or digital signal.
They are able to list properties of different propagation channels.
