  • Students are able to understand in detail design and verification of

    • Voltage references
    • Sample-and-hold circuits
    • Switched-capacitor circuits
    • Oscillators.
  • They can explain the theory and concepts for CMOS circuit implementation of these building blocks. The students can apply these circuit concepts for advanced analog mixed-signal architectures.

This module introduces advanced topics in the field of mixed-signal design and will be offered as elective course. The choice of topic is open and will depend on demand or availability. Possible topics are:

  • Output buffer circuits
    • Theory of class-A, class-B and class-AB
    • Different class-AB buffer circuits concept
  • Voltage references
    • General considerations
    • Supply and temperature independent biasing
  • Sample-and-hold circuits
    • Basics of sample-and-hold circuits
    • Performance of sample-and-hold circuits
    • Circuit implementation examples
  • Switched capacitor circuits
    • Introduction and general considerations
    • Sampling switches
    • Switched capacitor amplifiers
    • Switched capacitor integrator
  • Oscillators
    • Introduction and general considerations
    • Ring oscillators
    • LC oscillators
    • Voltage controlled oscillators
  • Other advanced topics depending on latest trends (optional)
  • Design study (lab project)
Other important advanced analog building blocks can be introduced optionally or on demand in course of this lecture.
