BackCourse number | B2.00000.20.060 |
Course code | G&T |
Curriculum | 2023 |
Semester of degree program | Semester 2 |
Mode of delivery | Presencecourse |
Units per week | 2,0 |
ECTS credits | 2,5 |
Language of instruction | German |
Students can name and explain the different casting and separation methods. They are able to work out the respective advantages and disadvantages, construct casting components and machined components according to manufacturing aspects. They can explain the origin of the cast material.
B2.00000.12.100 - Material science 1
B2.00000.10.040 - Chemistry
• Casting
o Protoypes through casting (basic concepts: forms, molding processes, etc.)
o Metallurgical fundamentals of casting (cast structure, seeding, crystal forms)
o Casting materials (cast steel, cast iron, malleable cast iron)
castability (flow and formability, shrinkage, tendency to crack)
o Forming and casting processes (lost formers, permanent molds, gravity casting, die casting, centrifugal casting)
o Design of castings (design rules, casting design)
• Separation
o basic concepts of separation technology (movements and geometry of machining processes)
o Fundamentals for machining (chip formation, cutting materials, lubrication and wear)
o Separation with geometrically determined cutting edges (turning, drilling, milling)
o Separation with geometrically indefinite cutting edges (grinding, lapping)
o Other separation processes (cutting, thermal cutting, water jet cutting)
o Design of work pieces to be machined (design rules for turning, design rules for drilling)
