Students shall get an insight in the critical conflict situations that can happen to them in midwifery context. They shall understand basic ethic principles about language and helpful techniques of communication in difficult situations. As part of this course students shall also improve their self-defence mechanism.

As part of the general subjects for obtaining evidence of formal qualifications in midwifery, the schedule in third semester includes 'Legal and Ethical Framework of Midwifery'. Due to the Euopean Standards for Nursing and Midwifery students shall learn about professional ethics and professional legislation as well as legal protection of mother and infant (according to European Union Standards for Nursing and Midwifery, Vgl. FH-Heb-AV StF: BGBl. II Nr. 1/2006 (Version 2016)).
During this course students shall work on fundamentals of medical ethics, on feasibility, responsibility, concerns, self-determination, autonomy and liability issues. Preterm labor and delivery, on the edge of life as well as fetal medicine and prenatal medicine will be discussed in this course. Neonatal intensive care, disability, feticide and late abortion are also going to be topics in the in class discussions. Other topics: Reproductive medicine, preimplantation genetic diagnostics, egg donation, surrogacy, homologous and heterologous sperm donation, multiple pregnancy, adoption, anonymous birth and baby hatch,etc.
