The theoretical and technical training shall be balanced and coordinated with the clinical training in such a way that the knowledge and experience gained so far may be acquired in an adequate manner. Clinical instruction shall take the form of supervised in-service training in hospital departments or other health services approved by the competent authorities or bodies. As part of this training, student midwives shall participate in the activities of the departments concerned in so far as those activities contribute to their training. They shall be taught the responsibilities involved in the activities of midwives. The practical and clinical training is to be dispensed under appropriate supervision (according to European Union Standards for Nursing and Midwifery, 2009; Articles 40-42 of 2005/36/EC).

During the fourth internship students shall implement and continuously strengthen their gained knowledge based on courses and clinical experience. The focus for the fourth internship is to get a wider view of continuity of care model. Students shall use the opportunity to get an internship at a neonatology and learn about preterm born neonates. Also, students shall use the opportunity of observing well-woman care at the gynecological ward, oberserve gynecological surgeries and recovery phase. Students shall develop their handling in challenging situations, strengthen their teamwork skills, work with empathy, grow their frustration tolerance and be able to self-reflect their work after challenging situations. Appropriate communication, proper documentation and hygienic working is demanded.
