Students are able to define the conditions and requirements for electronic systems and circuits under extreme conditions, such as temperature, reliability, cost efficiency, energy efficiency, and others.
They can analyse and design circuits under said conditions.

The module will discuss electronic circuits and systems under special conditions, for example:

  • Extreme temperatures: high temperatures, e.g. in special industrial environments, or low temperatures, e.g. in aerospace applications
  • Extreme reliability, e.g. in security- or safety-relevant circuits and systems
  • Extreme cost pressure (finding cost effective solutions for common applications)
  • Low voltage systems and circuits;
  • Energy efficient systems, including energy harvesting
  • Other topics may be defined by the lecturers.

The following literature is recommended as an example:

  • J. D. Cressler, H. A. Mantooth (eds), Extreme Environment Electronics, CRC Press, 2017
  • V. K. Khanna, Extreme-Temperature and Harsh-Environment Electronics, IOP Publ. Ltd., 2017
  • J. Cepeda-Rizo, J. Gayle, J. Ravich, Thermal and Structural Electronic Packaging Analysis for Space and Extreme Environments, CRC Press, 2021
