• Building on the previous courses as well as the parallel course in design theory, the students independently develop a design project, which must be presented and defended at the end.
• In addition, this course marks the start of the mechanical engineering project from the following semester. Students develop the first important steps of the design process, in particular the specifications and functional specifications.
• Students acquire applied knowledge in project management, machine elements, mechanics, materials science, construction and design and are able to combine this partial knowledge into an overall picture.
• In addition, individual process steps of "virtual prototyping" are discussed and analyzed on the basis of a real prototype. In particular, emphasis is placed on the selection of materials and recycling in terms of sustainability. .

• In the course, two project assignments are carried out, namely a joint design project from the parallel course Design Theory and the "Mechanical Engineering Project" according to the chosen specialization.
• For both projects, a project order is defined (e.g., specifications), which is then processed in a structured manner.
• The subsequent design process is divided into brainstorming - researching - analysing - conceiving - designing - elaborating, with a short intermediate presentation after each stage of the process.
• The implied intermediate steps such as material selection, manufacturability as well as basic working methods and definitions of terms are taken into account and discussed in constant compliance with the schedule.
