The students are able to apply the biomedical analysis process (preanalytics, analytics, post-analytics) as part of the medical overall process- based on a doctor's order - on their own responsibility and independently. They are able to:

  • Understand the requirements of the requested analyses and assess if the available material is suitable for the requested biomedical analysis; if needed they can contact the responsible person to obtain missing information or to clarify the need for new sample material
  • Assess which data and parameters are necessary for patient and sample identification
  • Extract the examination material professionally and independently as well ascarry out professional conversations for the process of establishing a relationship with the patient and the relative, taking into account cultural and religious needs, lifestyle and values
  • Connect and implement the acquired knowledge about measurement process, evaluation, method-specific measured values, measurement results and calculation methods with/using the functionality of current and new equipment
  • Carry out measures for the preparation of samples, reagents and equipment while maintaining quality assurance criteria and considering influencing and disruptive factors; recognize and adequately respond to method-specific technical and biological disturbance factors
  • Apply appropriate laboratory analytical steps and measures
  • Organize the processing of sample material on a sample-specific and laboratory-logistically efficient basis
  • Carry out analysis of the examination material with the appropriate measurement, verification and assessment procedures independently
  • Assess and quantify cellular structures and structural changes microscopically
  • Evaluate, technically validate, document, forward and archive analysis results and if necessary alsovisualize these graphically and evaluate them statistically
  • Properly carry out the storage of examination materials and reagents
  • Apply hygienic measures appropriately and assess the compliance with the appropriate techniques
  • Recognize the limits of self-reliant practice andestablish the connection with the relevant legal regulations, meet the requirements of quality management and the statutory provisions on employee protection, radiation protection, environmental protection and hygiene as well aswork according to professional, economic and environmental principles
  • Realistically assess one's own abilities in terms of professional, organizational, coordinating and administrative professional requirements
  • Responsibly make their own decisions outward, and translate them into the communicative and organizational skills required to handle complex interdisciplinary tasks, recognize the responsibilities of other health professions and other occupations, andwork together in a multi-professional team
  • Also apply the acquired knowledge in research, science, industry or veterinary medicine
In addition, students are able to perform cardiovascular, pulmonary and neurophysiological functional diagnostics according to a doctor's order.
Furthermore, they can recognize life-threatening conditions which can occur during function diagnosis and to provide appropriate first aid. They are able to produce a quality-assured function-diagnostic finding for a medical diagnosis or therapy monitoring, document it by means of information technologies andcommunicate the results adequately to the clinical staff.

• Internship in biomedical analysis according to FH-MTD-AV and internship regulations

Books, journals, work instructions and websites according to the current state of knowledge in the respective fields.
