Students master sequences and series; they understand the notion of limit; they master the basic axiometry of differential and integral calculus; they understand function series and in particular master power and Fourier series.
The course includes the following main topics:
- Sequences and series (notion of convergence, limit arithmetic)
- Functions (limit determination, continuity, elementary functions) Differential calculus (concept of derivative, derivative rules, higher derivatives, numerical differentiation, limit rule of de L'Hospital)
- Integral calculus (Riemann sums, definite and indefinite integral, integration techniques, improper integrals)
- Basic information on function series (power and Fourier series)
The following basic literature will be used in the course:
- Teschl, G., Teschl, S., Mathematics for Computer Scientists, Vol. 2, Springer, 2006;
- Meyberg, K., Vachenauer, P., Higher Mathematics 1, Springer, 2003;
- Burg, K., et.al., Higher Mathematics for Engineers, Volume I: Analysis, Springer, 2012;
Lecture, exercises, accompanying tutorial offered (supplementary to the curriculum), accompanying use of computer algebra systems (MATLAB) and digital media for self-study.
Final grade comprised of
- Class participation,
- Partial or final examination
