Based on an understanding of the physiological and pathophysiological regulatory mechanisms of hemostaseology, students are able to perform the biomedical analysis process in hemostaseology, i.e.:
- Assess the central importance of accurate sample identification
- Assign the relevant measures to the respective bioanalytical and medical question and understand the requirement with regard to the requested analyzes and to assess whether the available examination material is suitable for the requested biomedical analyzes
- Assess the preanalytical influence and method-dependent disturbance variables on the respective measured variables and their effects on the respective laboratory test
- Critically evaluate the hemostaseological analysis methods, in particular manual techniques such as coagulation and fibrinolysis analysis, and to justify them based on the question
- Recognize the basic reaction processes in the analysis process or recognize them in the automated processes
- Apply suitable evaluation methods or methods of data acquisition based on their knowledge of the measurement process, evaluation, method-specific measured values, measurement results and calculation methods as well as to correlate them with the functionality of current and new equipment technologies
- Apply appropriate laboratory analytical procedures and techniques, and perform selected hematological and hemostaseological analyses (coagulation and fibrinolysis analysis, etc.) with the appropriate measurement, detection and assessment procedures and with the help of work instructions using different sample materials
- Carry out and assess subject-specific quality assurance measures
- Identify and correctly allocate simple mistakes in the execution of a method and remedy them as far as possible
- Documentation of examination results
- Properly carry out the storage and transport of examination materials and reagents
- Apply laboratory-specific hygiene measures appropriately and according to requirements
- Technically and biomedically validate the assay results
- Due to the available laboratory results, students are able to logically select further advanced laboratory analysis (step-by-step diagnostics)
Modules of the 1st semester
- Physiology of hemostasis, pathogenesis
- Review of primary and secondary hemostasis including fibrinolysis, creation of standard curves
- Anticoagulants and their effects
- Hemostaseological analysis process (pre-analytics, analytics, post-analytics including quality assurance, documentation, validation and interpretation of results, transmission, archiving of findings)
- Extraction, transport, storage and disposal of hemostaseological analysis materials
- Laboratory exercises on coagulation and fibrinolysis analytical laboratory procedures including documentation, technical and biomedical validation of results (including work preparation and follow-up)
