The students are familiar with the foundations of linear elasticity and can explain the characteristic bearing behavior of plates. They are able to design simple rectangular and annular plates and to assess the advantage, the drawback and also the application field of plates in the design process of structural planning.

Foundations of elasticity, theory of plate structures bearing in-plane and out-of-plane forces. Kirchhoff plates and Reissner-Mindlin-plates. Characteristic bearing behaviour of plate structures (edge-supported, point-supported, boundary effects, singularities, load transfer).
Analytical solution strategies. Tables for hand calculation (Czerny).
