The graduates know the basics in the theories of technology (ethics of technology, issues in technology genesis and technology implementation) which concern the concept of technology as a central medium for the forms of social communication and the human interpretation of the self and the world.

The basics of ethical and philosophical competence in the area of technology ethics are gained in a normative manner. This access of social-philosophical-political issues is discussed in regard to bioethics as "trans-sectoral technology ethics" (fallacy).

In particular, the graduates gain an understanding of the challenges of dealing with new options of action in high tech medicine. They are able to recognize, to analyse and to assess (bio)ethical problems in the development of new technologies. They understand the approaches and the evaluation of technological development in respect to the priorities of people with disabilities.

In case of technological development the students are aware of accessibility and the possibilities of "design for all".

The students are introduced to the interface of medical technologies in "AAL" developments (ambient assisted living) and know about research findings for the needs analysis, their usability and their acceptance as a basis of integral "AAL" evaluation strategies.

The knowledge is furthermore used to reflect upon their professional identity.

Basic dimensions and functions of the profession and professionalism (professionalisation theories) are discussed in this lecture as well as the formation of a professional identity in the course of DDS. Students are informed, that DDS on the one hand are based on scientific research, but on the other hand also offer new professional fields of action, which connect the varied and rapid developments of technology (as for example consultation in biomedical decision situations, consultation in issues of freedom of barriers as well as consultants, socio-scientific experts in participative development processes of technology). Particularly important is the creation of a professional identity in DDS and technology.
