Upon the successful completion of the Language Immersion Course Italian 1, students will acquire the following competencies regarding the Italian language:

  • introduce themselves and others
  • understand spoken greetings and introductions
  • ask questions about personal details and family-related topics, geographical location, directions and spelling
  • fill out personal details in forms
  • interact on topics of interest
  • read and understand short descriptions about people
  • order and pay in a café
  • describe their accommodation
  • tell the time and talk about their daily routines
  • talk about relatives and family

This is a beginners' course for students with little or no prior Italian language knowledge (at CEF level A1). The following language topics will be covered in this module:

  • Greetings and self-introduction
  • Talking about myself, my family and my immediate surroundings (studies, work, home)
  • Asking and answering questions about personal details and family-related topics
  • Basic vocabulary, phrases, grammar structures, and connecting words
  • The time and calendar
  • Simple sentence structure, forming questions (interrogative pronouns) and statements, negation
  • Local and temporal prepositions
  • Personal and possessive pronouns
  • Position of adverbs
  • Present and passato prossimo
  • Ordinal numbers
  • Talking about preferences ("mi piace"/"mi piacciono")
  • Talking about the weather ("piove")
