Students can process data sets using a computer. Data analysis is usually carried out by computer-based processes; therefore, data scientists need to be able to code with a statistical computing software suite such as R.
The theory of this course is immediately put into practice as students process small data sets directly at the computer. In addition to deepening their knowledge of the methods of descriptive and inductive statistics, students become familiar with the fundamentals of programming. This includes elementary arithmetic operations, data types, data structure and access, input/output of data including databases, import and export of data and programming code, finding programming assistants as well as programming concepts, such as loops and conditional statements.
