The students are able to understand the special characteristics of wireless propagation channels and the associated structure for implementing a wireless communication system. The students know about different modulation and coding schemes in order to account for difficult transmission channel characteristics. They gain knowledge on different multiple access schemes, which are common in state-of-the-art wireless communication systems.

The module covers the following topics:
• Propagation, Transmitter & Receiver
• Fading (Multipath/Rayleigh/Doppler)
• Modulation: PSK/FSK/GMSK
• Multiplexing & Multiple Access
o ...CSMA-CA/CSMA-CD
o ...Multi Carrier Modulation OFDM(A)
o ...FDMA/TDMA/(W)CDMA
• Spread Spectrum (DSSS, CSS, ...)
• Software Defined Radio SDR
• W-PAN / W-LAN Standards...
o ...Bluetooth
o ...ZigBee
o ...802.11
