The students are able to explain standard solutions and basic design approaches for steel composite construction and to define the material-specific and execution-related requirements when doing the conceptual design of a structure.
They design on the basis of modern design concepts according to current European Standards typical steel composite members in buildings (girders, columns). The different options of structural detailing and execution of joints are reflected and compared to pure steel structures. By means of the worked examples they develop an understanding of the practical aspects and are able to identify the relevant topics in detailing and execution.

* Principles of steel composite structures
* Determination of internal forces and basis of design
* Design of steel composite members
* Detailing and execution
