The students are able to solve systems of differential equations and are familiar with the most important partial differential equations in physics and engineering.
They understand the results in a physical context by using the PDE-MATLAB Toolbox or other appropriate numerical tools.
The students can apply advanced methods of linear algebra and vector calculus for modelling physical and technical systems and are able to discuss the solutions and analyze the resulting data.
The module covers the following topics/contents:
- Systems of differential equations
- Introduction to partial differential equations
- Special topics of linear algebra (e.g. SVD decomposition)
- Numerical methods for the solution of differential equations
- Vector calculus, line and surface integrals, integral theorems
The following literature is recommended as an example:
- E. Kreyszig, Advanced Engineering Mathematics, 10th ed. (Int. Student Version), Wiley & Sons, 2011
Lecture with integrated calculation exercises, exercises with mathematical software (e.g. MATLAB)
Integrated module examination
Immanent examination character: Active participation in class, homework, written or oral examination
