According to European Union Standards for Nursing and Midwifery (Vgl. FH-Heb-AV StF: BGBl. II Nr. 1/2006 (Version 2016) midwifery students shall care for and assist the mother during labor and monitor the condition of the fetus in utero by appropriate clinical and technical measures.
Students shall get a basic understanding of job-specific nursing diagnoses and nursing processes. They get introduced to the support and care of the woman during labor and delivery as well as the observation and care of the healthy newborn immediately after birth. They shall get to know the use of technology and obstetric instruments as well as the basics of proper documentation used in the obstetric department.

MEDG-1, RESG

According to European Union Standards for Nursing and Midwifery (Vgl. FH-Heb-AV StF: BGBl. II Nr. 1/2006 (Version 2016)) midwifery students shall get access to adequate knowledge of the sciences on which the activities of midwives are based, particularly obstetrics and gynaecology; as well as detailed knowledge of biological functions, anatomy and physiology in the field of obstetrics and of the newly born, and also a knowledge of the relationship between the state of health and the physical and social environment of the human being, and of his behaviour; subjects specific to the activities of midwives like anatomy and physiology, embryology and development of the foetus [...]

Graduates shall have a basic knowledge of the relevant anatomy and physiology of a woman as well as the hormonal transition. They shall be able to discuss the stages of birth as well as the puerperium with the parents. Graduates shall be able to demonstrate and explain the regular process of birth (onset of birth, delivery, delivery of the placenta,...).
Students also know about the different models of care and know the practical tasks of midwives in hospital. They know the differences about midwifery out-of-hospital care. Students know about the importance of preventive measures and health promotion.
Graduates of this class shall be able to state all the factors which can influence or change the regular process of birth. They shall be able to list relevant measures and techniques, to explain and use them.
