According to European Union Standards for Nursing and Midwifery (Vgl. vgl. FH-Heb-AV StF: BGBl. II Nr. 1/2006 (Version 2016)) health education and preventive medicine are parts of the training programme for obtaining evidence of formal qualifications in midwifery.

Students shall get introduced to professional communication, to respect each other's opinions and act appropriately to various cultural and religious backgrounds.They shall take different lifestyles and attitudes into consideration while talking to women and their families. During this class students shall get introduced to communication models, basics of pedagogy and learn about midwifery concepts of care. These concepts of care will be in relation to every day advice provided by midwives. After finishing this class students shall be able to communicate effectively and facilitate empowerment for taking decisions. Also students shall know about learning types, different styles of learning, team leading and adult education.

Introduction to tools and methods of professional communication based on practical exercises, role plays, movies, models of communication, relationship types, conditions and environment, counselling and informed choice.
