According to European Union Standards for Nursing and Midwifery (Vgl. FH-Heb-AV StF: BGBl. II Nr. 1/2006 (Version 2016)) preventive medicine is a part of midwifery work.
To prevent prolapses in elderly women as well as to minimize perineal tears in childbirth, it is important for women to focus on pelvic floor throughout their whole lives. Midwives shall remind women of preventive measures they can take during pregnancy and post partum to maintain well-woman health.
During this class students shall learn different preventive measures like Kegel exercises, breathing tecniques, relaxation, everyday behavior and measurement for optimal wound healing after perineal injury. Theoretical background like pelvic floor anatomyand diagnosis and treatment of incontinence is a part of this class. Students shall be able to pepare their own prenatal or post partum class after completing this course.
