Students develop a fundamental, social-science-orientated understanding of the institutionalisation of human rights in the context of world-social developments. For this, they know and reflect
the ideas and social history roots of human rights legality as a global liability structure,
the rough architecture of the international system of human rights,
the ambivalent relation between human rights protection and (national) sovereignty claim as well as the tension of the universalist claim of human rights to cultural diversity,
human rights as an open emancipatory project in the context of social movements,
the meaning of human rights as a justified orientation standard of the profession of Social Work as a "code of ethics" and human rights orientated policies of the international representative organisations

In the course an understanding of and a basal knowledge about human rights are developed. On this basis, practice-oriented reflections on film material, discussions of human rights matters with problematic basic structure, and role-plays in the style of a recursive human rights education are offered in order to deepen knowledge discursively, but also to explore individual prejudices and intellectual limits. Finally, it is important to discuss how Social Work as a profession can work on a micro, meso and macro level in a human rights-orientated way.
