Health education and preventive medicine are parts of the training programme for obtaining evidence of formal qualifications in midwifery.

Students shall learn about the health care system in Austria, how to maintain public health, find answers to socio-medical questions, be able to provide health education and any preventive measurements. Students shall learn about the framework of midwifery tasks and shall get introduced to professional communication with respect of other opinions and various cultural and religious backgrounds.They shall take various lifestyles and attitudes into consideration while talking to women and their families. Sucessful communication in obstetric terms is a focus of this class. This semester is focused on families in special situations due to immigration, addictions, illnesses, mental problems, trauma in pregnancy, during labor and post partum depression. Team work skills, conflict management, cristism, self-determination and self-reflection skills shall be established and improved during this semester. Students shall improve their communicative and organizational skills to manage the interaction, information, support and education of women and their families. Students shall prepare coping strategies and helpful material for crisis and stressful situations.
