Students know the most important illnesses which are the greatest burden in the world, and specifically in Austria. They have understood which concepts have been developed for the measurement of "illness burden" and which problems are theoretically and practically connected to them. They can differentiate according to the mortality and morbidity of diseases. They are familiar with the main differences in the epidemiological spectrum of a western industrialised country such as Austria compared to spectra of other societies from other regions. They are also able to name the most significant, modifiable risk factors for the main illness groups. Students have learned the methodology developed by WHO (CHOICE) to prioritise health interventions in selected examples and are therefore able to question health policies in terms of coherence, effectiveness and efficiency.
