The graduates know the basics in the theories of technology (ethics of technology, issues in technology genesis and technology implementation) which concern the concept of technology as a central medium for the forms of social communication and the human interpretation of the self and the world.

The basics of ethical and philosophical competence in the area of technology ethics are gained in a normative manner. This access of social-philosophical-political issues is discussed in regard to bioethics as "trans-sectoral technology ethics" (fallacy).

In particular, the graduates gain an understanding of the challenges of dealing with new options of action in high tech medicine. They are able to recognize, to analyse and to assess (bio)ethical problems in the development of new technologies. They understand the approaches and the evaluation of technological development in respect to the priorities of people with disabilities.

In case of technological development the students are aware of accessibility and the possibilities of "design for all".

The students are introduced to the interface of medical technologies in "AAL" developments (ambient assisted living) and know about research findings for the needs analysis, their usability and their acceptance as a basis of integral "AAL" evaluation strategies.

The knowledge is furthermore used to reflect upon their professional identity.

Technologies cannot only compensate a limited function, they should also support the social participation of people. The ideal case includes people with disabilities in the development of technologies. First, technology should be formed in such a way that it is usable by everyone. Secondly, it should provide people with disabilities the option to be able to live like the others. The students gain interdisciplinary competence in structuring the research and development of new technologies, so that they are suitable for the barrier-free use by people with disabilities. In "AAL developments" (Ambient Assisted Living) the graduates are introduced to common projects in medical technology.
