Internationalization and sustainability are growing missions of Higher Education institutions (HEIs) worldwide aimed to promote a high
quality and interconnected academic system responding to the emerging global challenges and the training needs of the new
students’generation.
The “Sustainability and Internationalization capacities to promote modernisation of Newcomers Higher Education in Neighbourhood East
Countries” (SIN-NEC) project addresses the need to enhance sustainability and internationalization competences of less-experienced,
newcomers Armenian (AM) and Ukrainian (UA) Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) with the support of 3 EU partners (2 HEIs, 1 private
company) and 1 experienced AM HEI.
To fulfill this goal, the project, after a comprehensive self-assessment, will build capacities of academics, managers and administrative staff
on planning and development of strategies and action plans towards internationalization and sustainability. The project will upskill
teachers on teaching and training on innovative pedagogics and digital tools in virtual environments to enhance their internationalization
potential. Training will be addressed to sustainability and sustainable entrepreneurship that will be used to develop and pilot new modules.
Main project results:
-Enhanced capabilities of the 7 newcomer and less-experienced HEIs that will be exploited in modern strategic plans and actions on
internationalisation and sustainability
-Upskilled teachers on new teaching methodologies, language strategy, heterogeneous learner management, Virtual Exchange, and
sustainability
-Modernization of equipment and software of AM and UA universities to support internationalization and virtual exchanges
The interconnected SIN-NEC activities by knowledge transfer and best practices exchange will promote the internationalisation the
newcomers HEIs and enhance the awareness on sustainability aspects that could be used as a model to be further exploited in other
environments

COVID-induced lockdowns have exacerbated existing socioeconomic challenges, above all in the tourism sector, which accounts for 10% of the EU’s GDP and 10% employment. Indeed, the sector’s international GDP has fallen by over 49% and an 18.5% loss in tourism jobs in 2020 (WTTC, 2021). Such lockdowns have also affected work-life, leisure and recreational patterns, bringing about significant changes to daily routines and a need to adapt economic systems. If positive changes cannot be found to innovate work models and welfare, and increased adoption of CSR initiatives, adaptations can result in negative health and well-being impacts on people (Heller and Richter, 2020). In addition, climate crisis sensitivity, and growing demand for sustainability in nature, is putting high pressure on tourist destinations not to return to „business as usual".
These combined aspects represent a clear opportunity to rethink tourism trends to improve Sustainable Tourism Destination Management (STDM), and focus on emerging demands, such as labour welfare and health and well-being nature, in line with a just transition.
The WeNaTour alliance aims to increase the capacity of HEIs, VETs and business to integrate research results, innovative practice and digitalisation into a high-quality educational offer to support the creation of new products, services, entrepreneurial ventures and jobs in STDM while focusing on concrete approaches to supporting sustainability in destinations, as well as on two promising emerging markets: (1) labor welfare, and (2) health and well-being in nature. It will do so by facilitating the co-creation of knowledge and multidisciplinary approaches to teaching among an EU network of HEIs, VET and businesses active in sustainable tourism in Italy, Romania, Austria, Ireland, and Germany and the Netherlands; while aiming to deliver a global set of blended trainings providing relevant skills to operators, destinations, agencies and professionals.

This project began considering that internationalization can be tackled as a managerial issue that touches the structural functional domains of an organization. Conceptualizing internationalisation as an organizational change process is a necessary fi rst step toward successfully ingraining international dimensions into core functions of higher education institutions. The key deliverable of the project represents an internationalization Management model to be implemented, in partner Universities and able to be later used by other Universities. The model aims to improve governance procedures to promote and enhance internationalization within university hierarchy, set guidelines to establish appropriate legal framework, and create the required infrastructure for the implementation of internationalization. The model will include principles, priorities, a series of guidelines and procedures. The model will be in line with international norms and expectations particulary Bologna Process.

Through the actual implementation of on-line courses in real academic environments, we have been able to develop Moodle as an on-line platform to assist English language instructors at the company Globeskills, especially in the fields of Medical English and Technical English instruction. Multimedia (video and audio files) assignments, forums, on-line quizzes and tests, course administration of participants, interactive ad-hoc communication between instructors and students were primary examples of implementing this Blended Learning teaching approach.
Each Moodle web page contains a number of embedded links that allow both students as well as lecturers/administrators to easily navigate between the many functions and layers of the platform. This increases the ease of learning the new system and user acceptance of the platform. The experience gained in developing this platform and testing in real-life educational environments has been transferred to GlobeSkills by working closely with the company over the period of the project.
Additional testing is still required in establishing e-mail notification, instant messenger and chat platforms as well as fixing server bugs in terms of course back-ups and importing existing courses and corrected and identifying errors resulted in the imports.
The on-line courses and server structure have been mirrored and implemented on a laptop provided by the company Globeskills for displaying the functionalities of Moodle to potential clients as well as for training purposes.

The main goal of AddCircles is to empower regional companies and networks for additive manufacturing (AM). The technology is perfectly suited to the region‘s business landscape. It enables the manufacture of products with high added value through the development of sustainable solutions. As such, AddCircles will stimulate the region to transition to a resilient and circular economy. The project aims to drive the implementation of AM in a way that improves resource efficiency in manufacturing and promotes recycling and the use of natural materials. The objective will be achieved by establishing a cooperation network of different cross-border value chains and through two pilot projects for knowledge transfer at different stakeholder levels.

An essential basis for the implementation of the EEC project was the availability of highly qualified professionals who could develop, operate, and maintain the relevant production, manufacturing, and logistics technologies. The ETAT project aimed to create exemplary Education & Training Centers in the field of engineering education at selected EEC universities that were suitable education hubs in the region to support industry-related education and training for engineers and young specialists. It aimed to achieve the following objectives: modernization of higher education in Thailand based on the experience of EU countries; increasing the employment rate of university graduates and implementing the concept of LLL with the help of training in Automation 4.0; development of partnerships with enterprises; improving the quality and relevance of higher education in Thailand in Automation 4.0; establishment of 6 certified ETAT Training Centers at Thai universities, which were equipped with 24 special training places (4 ETAT Smart Labs per university); Establishment of a platform for distance learning and cooperation for providing e-learning and for the exchange of didactical documents and information. ETAT Training Centers were provided with teaching materials and certified courses for different target groups (students, employees, post-graduates) as well as with the Thai trainers trained by EU partners.
