Carinthia University of Applied Sciences (CUAS) recently showcased its innovative badge system to partners from beyond the European Union.

On March 31st, CUAS hosted an online training event within the framework of the Capacity Building Project “Sustainability and Internationalization Capacities to Promote Modernization of Newcomers Higher Education in Neighbourhood East Countries (SIN-NEC).”

The virtual session welcomed over 30 colleagues from partner institutions in Ukraine, Armenia, and Italy, specifically:

  • University of Teramo (Italy)
  • Alfred Nobel University (Ukraine)
  • Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs (Ukraine)
  • Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics (Ukraine)
  • IDE NAES of Ukraine (Ukraine)
  • Armenian State Institute of Physical Culture and Sport (Armenia)
  • Eurasia International University (Armenia)
  • Yerevan Haybusak University (Armenia)
  • Northern University (Armenia)

Aleksandra Jama from the CUAS International Relations Office and Marvin Hoffland from the CUAS Center for E-Learning led the engaging session. They provided valuable insights on "Training Support for English Usage and Upskilling Language Competencies." A key focus of the CUAS experts was the introduction of their badge system. This structured approach is designed to support the self-development and lifelong learning of staff members in a cost-efficient manner. The aim was to inspire Ukrainian and Armenian partners to develop similar structured, low-cost systems, utilizing digital badges to enhance their own staff's language skills.

The training fostered a collaborative environment where partners explored the core principles of a badge system and thoughtfully considered its potential benefits and drawbacks. CUAS is proud to play a role in this significant initiative, supporting the modernization and internationalization efforts of higher education institutions in countries beyond the EU's borders.

Project description:

Internationalization and sustainability are growing missions of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) worldwide aimed to promote a high-quality and interconnected academic system responding to the emerging global challenges and the training needs of the new students’ generation.

The SIN-NEC project addresses the need to enhance sustainability and internationalization competencies of less-experienced, newcomers Armenian and Ukrainian Higher Education Institutions with the support of 3 EU partners and 1 experienced Armenian higher education institution.

To fulfil this goal, the project, after a comprehensive self-assessment, builds capacities of academics, managers and administrative staff on planning and development of strategies and action plans towards internationalization and sustainability.
