The Welcome Day at Carinthia University of Applied Sciences (CUAS) was a vibrant and well-organized event, specially designed to introduce new students to the university and its wide array of services. This event offered a perfect opportunity for students to gain an informative and engaging overview of CUAS, its support systems, and the various ways to get involved in the student community.
The day kicked off with a heartfelt welcome by CUAS Rector Peter Granig and the Vice Mayor of Villach, Sarah Katholnig, who greeted our new international students. The speakers introduced the CUAS experience, highlighting the university’s commitment to inclusivity and innovation. A key feature of the day was the introduction of the European University Alliance (ACE2-EU)—a cutting-edge initiative connecting CUAS with European partner institutions. Through this alliance, students can look forward to exciting opportunities such as academic collaborations, exchanges, and joint educational programs that will broaden their academic horizons and offer enriching international experiences.
Support Services for Your Success
The Welcome Day also featured a comprehensive session on CUAS’s support services. Representatives from FH Kärnten Sport, the Info Center, and Job & Career Services gave insightful presentations on the essential services available to help students thrive academically and personally. The spotlight was on ICT and Moodle, which are crucial tools for managing coursework and academic success, ensuring students are well-prepared for the technical demands of their studies.
In the afternoon, key presentations from the AMS (Public Employment Service), the CIC (Carinthia International Center), and the CUAS Library took center stage. Alexander Gärtner and Max Kerschbaumer from AMS provided valuable advice on internships and job opportunities, helping students align their academic journey with their career aspirations. Ervin Kalender from CIC emphasized the importance of supporting international students both personally and academically, while the CUAS Library presentation showcased the extensive academic resources available to assist students throughout their studies.
Celebrating Tradition
To conclude this exciting day, the Volkstanzgruppe Villach (folk dance group) delivered a lively and entertaining performance, adding a cultural touch to the event. This introduction to Austrian tradition not only entertained attendees but also gave students a chance to engage with the local cultural heritage, fostering a sense of connection to the Villach region and its customs.
The CUAS Welcome Day 2024 set a positive tone for the academic journey ahead, creating an atmosphere of support, connection, and cultural immersion. Special thanks to Stefanie Steiner and her team from the International Relations Office for organizing this successful event for our new students.
We are thrilled to welcome all our new students into the CUAS community and look forward to supporting you throughout your academic journey and beyond. Welcome to CUAS!
