The CUAS School of Management is leading the way in university-industry collaboration with an innovative three-level framework designed to immerse international business students in the international business context. This pioneering approach integrates practical, industry-focused education with a global perspective, ensuring that students gain real-world experience alongside their academic BA studies.

One of the key partnerships driving this initiative is CUAS’s collaboration with FERCAM, an international logistics company. This partnership aims to explore ways of integrating students into real-world logistics operations, bridging the gap between academia and industry. By providing students with invaluable insights and practical knowledge, this cooperation sets a new benchmark for experiential learning in higher education.  It is a transformative learning experience designed to empower the next generation of graduates.

A Hands-On Learning Experience in Spring 2025

In Spring 2025, business students from two international programs of the School of Management – Digital Marketing and Sales (DMS) and Intercultural Management (ICM) – will have a unique opportunity to explore how data is collected and utilized in a real-world logistics setting.

As part of their coursework “Research Skills and Scientific Work” students will tackle data management for international logistics, gain hands-on experience in transport management operations, sales, and international HR management. This practical exposure will enhance their understanding of the data management in international logistics.

This partnership is possible thanks to the visionary leadership of Mr. Gerd Prantner and ongoing support of Ms.  Juliana Petri Mendes from FERCAM Austria.

Partnership

In 2023, CUAS formalized its partnership with FERCAM Logistics & Transport, marking a significant milestone in aligning higher education with industry demands. This collaboration extends beyond traditional academic-industry partnerships by directly linking the talent needs of global companies with the aspirations of international graduates. The primary goal is to cultivate talent that thrives in a globalized economy while fostering strong connections between academia and industry in Carinthia.

Dr. Colin Heller, head of the Intercultural Management (ICM) program and an experienced logistics expert, emphasizes the significance of cross-border competencies in international management:

"International logistics involves managing the flow of goods, information, and finances across borders. To succeed, students need to understand how to optimize global supply chains and navigate the complexities of cross-border trade. Cultural awareness and effective communication are equally vital for collaboration in a global business environment."

Through this partnership, CUAS integrates multilingual skills and logistical expertise into its curriculum, ensuring that students are well-prepared to excel in diverse and dynamic international contexts.

Real-World Experience for Global Impact

The CUAS-FERCAM partnership is a testament to the School of Management’s commitment to practice-oriented education and global industry collaboration. This initiative is part of the SoM Strategic Project “RWE: Real World Experience”, which aims to prepare students to excel in real-world settings. By fostering hands-on experience, CUAS ensures its graduates are not only ready for the challenges of international logistics but are also equipped to lead in the global business landscape.

As part of this initiative, the Research Skills course will focus on data management in a business context within a real company setting. Under the guidance of Module Coordinator FH-Prof. Dr. Colin Heller, ICM Program Director, students will gain practical insights into data-driven decision-making in the logistics industry.

By equipping students with real-world skills and global perspectives, CUAS and FERCAM are shaping the future of business education. This is more than just a partnership—it is a transformative learning experience designed to empower the next generation of global business leaders!
