The Province of Vorarlberg, in this regard, is spearheading a groundbreaking initiative. In collaboration with the UNESCO Chair, the state aims to develop a nature conservation strategy for the next decade. Well-developed nature conservation strategies are an important factor for federal states to ensure the framework conditions for successful nature conservation. Important areas of responsibility, such as species protection and the management of protected areas, fall within their mandate. The Vorarlberg Environmental and Climate Protection Department is undertaking implementation of an internal, up-to-date conservation strategy in its department. The UNESCO Chair – with its many years of technical expertise – is responsible for the content of the strategy development process. In order to define the goals, challenges and measures of the NAVO project, interviews and workshops are conducted together with the specialist department in order to develop an effective and medium-term strategy brief.
