Students get to know the most important methods und elements of
modern thermodynamics technologies and theoretical bases and that seen in applied tools with the consolidation to the modern view of biomimetics technolgies.
Knowledge of physic dynamics;
knowledge of differential equation, Limits and Derivatives, integrals, vector, matrix
Unit systems, condition, fundamental theorems for closed and open systems, distinguished systems, reversible process, enthalpy, stationary flow process, specific heat, cyclic process, exergy and energy, efficiency, chemical reactions and special changes of states; thermodynamic characteristics of materials, thermal parameters, aggregates and caloric values, ideal gas; inner energy, enthalpy and specific heat, simple changes of states of ideal gases; alloys of ideal gases, real gases, evaporation, steam and gas alloys; flow of gases, adiabatic and isentropic flow; instationary flows and theory of sound; combustion, air requirement, amount of waste gas, heating value, exergy losses; thermodynamics of compressors, turbines, combustion turbines, combustion power machines, steam power plants, refrigerating plants and heat pumps
The main goals of the curse are:
*To cover the basic principles of thermodynamics;
*To present examples to give students a feel for how thermodynamics is applied in science /engineering practice;
To develop an intuitive understanding of thermodynamics by emphasizing the physics and physical arguments;
*To help students develop the necessary skills to bridge the gap between knowledge and the confidence to properly apply knowledge in the investigations for Biomimetic & E-mobility.
Thermodynamics and an introduction to thermostatistics, 2nd Ed., Herbert B. Callen, John Wiley & Sons (1985);
Fundamentals of Enginnering Thermodynamics, 7th Ed., Michael J. Moran, Howard N. Shapiro and all, John Wiley & Sons (2011);

The course will be held based in slides presentations combined with explanation on the board.
The presentations will be available in the Bionics folder (I - Laufwerk Info BA Bionik Thermodynamics_(Figueira) ) and it is advised to print them previously in order to follow the lectures and to add extra comments.
The list of text-book can be find in the uggested bibliography.
