MATILDE aimed to shed light on the social and economic impacts of migration processes directed towards European rural and mountain areas stemming from the arrival and settling in of Third Country Nationals (TCNs), their upward trend, transformative and redistributive effects. Through local level fieldwork conducted with action-research methods, it aimed to stimulate the engagement of local stakeholders (e.g. migrants, policymakers, civil society, transnational networks) to produce new knowledge about the processes and strategies triggered by migration at the local level.
The project adopted a place-based approach and a mixed methodology and has:
- developed and tested an innovative toolbox for multi-dimensional and multi-scale assessment of the impacts of migration on the social, economic, and spatial dimensions in rural and mountain areas;
- shed light on the nexus between migration and local development and on the impacts of migration on territorial inequalities and regional disparities by assessing the impact of migration on the social and economic dimensions at different territorial scales;
- co-constructed a participatory assessment of the impacts of migration in rural and mountain areas through 13 local case studies in ten countries;
- promoted place-based governance of migration and socially inclusive growth through strategic and operational recommendations targeting national, regional, and local level policymakers and stakeholders;
- enhanced public awareness and stimulated informed debate on the impacts of migration, addressing misperceptions through dissemination and communication strategies targeting diverse groups (academia, stakeholders, citizens, migrants) at different government levels.

In many countries worldwide, inter alia in the US, and the UK, surveys became a popular instrument for policy-makers to gather information about the public service. These surveys aim to deliver information necessary for performance measurement, to identify challenges for the administration as well as reform needs, and the long run to improve the efficiency of the public administration. Moreover, they provide researchers with empirical evidence about the status quo and the performance of the public administration and therewith deliver the data-base for reform recommendations.
In the countries of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), research that is focusing the public administration and particularly the views and attitudes of the civil service is relatively rare, compared e.g. with the US or Europe. Hence, surveying the civil service is also the rare exception in these countries. Our research project targets this gap against the backdrop of two goals:
•First, its aim is to produce scientific publications that are informed by the views and experience of public servants in the Middle East and North Africa.
•Second, it targets practical needs of senior managers in the administration or on the political level to get actual and relevant information about the administration. This seems even more important with a view on the ongoing transformation process in many countries.

The objective of the ASIS project was to initiate, develop, and promote a new vision of innovation in the Alpine region, namely social innovation, in order to increase the innovation capacity of Alpine regions by responding to new challenges as they arose. ASIS stands for "Alpine Social Innovation Strategy." The ASIS consortium‘s goal was to develop a new approach to innovation that meets the economic and societal challenges faced by the Alpine region. Within the project, based on interviews and participatory research approaches, several policy recommendations were developed to foster socially innovative public policies, as well as a software tool that helps public bodies to identify promising social innovation projects. Moreover, a wide range of dissemination activities was carried out to ensure the perception of the results by politicians, bureaucrats as well as enterprises and the civil society.
This project is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund through the Interreg Alpine Space programme.

MATILDE aimed to shed light on the social and economic impacts of migration processes directed towards European rural and mountain areas stemming from the arrival and settling in of Third Country Nationals (TCNs), their upward trend, transformative and redistributive effects. Through local level fieldwork conducted with action-research methods, it aimed to stimulate the engagement of local stakeholders (e.g. migrants, policymakers, civil society, transnational networks) to produce new knowledge about the processes and strategies triggered by migration at the local level.
The project adopted a place-based approach and a mixed methodology and has:
- developed and tested an innovative toolbox for multi-dimensional and multi-scale assessment of the impacts of migration on the social, economic, and spatial dimensions in rural and mountain areas;
- shed light on the nexus between migration and local development and on the impacts of migration on territorial inequalities and regional disparities by assessing the impact of migration on the social and economic dimensions at different territorial scales;
- co-constructed a participatory assessment of the impacts of migration in rural and mountain areas through 13 local case studies in ten countries;
- promoted place-based governance of migration and socially inclusive growth through strategic and operational recommendations targeting national, regional, and local level policymakers and stakeholders;
- enhanced public awareness and stimulated informed debate on the impacts of migration, addressing misperceptions through dissemination and communication strategies targeting diverse groups (academia, stakeholders, citizens, migrants) at different government levels.

The objective of the ASIS project was to initiate, develop, and promote a new vision of innovation in the Alpine region, namely social innovation, in order to increase the innovation capacity of Alpine regions by responding to new challenges as they arose. ASIS stands for "Alpine Social Innovation Strategy." The ASIS consortium‘s goal was to develop a new approach to innovation that meets the economic and societal challenges faced by the Alpine region. Within the project, based on interviews and participatory research approaches, several policy recommendations were developed to foster socially innovative public policies, as well as a software tool that helps public bodies to identify promising social innovation projects. Moreover, a wide range of dissemination activities was carried out to ensure the perception of the results by politicians, bureaucrats as well as enterprises and the civil society.
This project is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund through the Interreg Alpine Space programme.

In many countries worldwide, inter alia in the US, and the UK, surveys became a popular instrument for policy-makers to gather information about the public service. These surveys aim to deliver information necessary for performance measurement, to identify challenges for the administration as well as reform needs, and the long run to improve the efficiency of the public administration. Moreover, they provide researchers with empirical evidence about the status quo and the performance of the public administration and therewith deliver the data-base for reform recommendations.
In the countries of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), research that is focusing the public administration and particularly the views and attitudes of the civil service is relatively rare, compared e.g. with the US or Europe. Hence, surveying the civil service is also the rare exception in these countries. Our research project targets this gap against the backdrop of two goals:
•First, its aim is to produce scientific publications that are informed by the views and experience of public servants in the Middle East and North Africa.
•Second, it targets practical needs of senior managers in the administration or on the political level to get actual and relevant information about the administration. This seems even more important with a view on the ongoing transformation process in many countries.
