This semester, students had a unique opportunity to interview Australian coffee shop owners from Yarra Café, gaining firsthand insights into entrepreneurship in an international setting within the regional context of Carinthia. These interviews provided valuable perspectives on how businesses operate in different cultural and economic environments.

CUAS School of Management is committed to bridging the gap between theory and practice, equipping business students with the skills needed to navigate the dynamic world of international business. Practical research courses are designed to inspire and engage students through hands-on learning, focusing on both qualitative and quantitative research methods.

What did students do?

  1. Formulated research and interview questions
  2. Conducted interviews with international business owners (Australia-Austria)
  3. Analyzed data using a global business perspective with the GEM framework (Global Entrepreneurship Monitor).

By integrating international entrepreneurship concepts with data-driven research, students can apply strategies from global markets to local business contexts. This experiential approach empowers them to think critically, and analyze real-world SME challenges.

Key Insights from the Expert Interview

During the session, students explored various aspects of running a business in the Australian and Austrian markets, including:  The motivations and challenges behind launching a company; Strategies for managing multiple product lines;  Effective collaboration with diverse clients;  The relationship between international and local SME dynamics.

A huge thank you to Yarra Café for sharing their experiences and providing an insightful panel interview—along with some delicious cakes!  It’s always a pleasure to connect students with real-world experiences and industry professionals.

CUAS students will continue their journey in international business, equipped with the knowledge and hands-on experience.
